El inicio de una afici\u00c3\u00b3n suele transformarse en una experiencia absolutamente absorbente para el individuo. As\u00c3\u00ad, en la adolescencia, el descubrimiento de la m\u00c3\u00basica suele convertirse en objeto de voraz militancia llegando a significar m\u00c3\u00a1s la propia filiaci\u00c3\u00b3n que la figura (m\u00c3\u00basica) a la que se \u00c3\u00a9sta se adscribe. El apetito es insaciable en esta etapa, crey\u00c3\u00a9ndose uno capaz de asimilar todo aquel sonido al que se llega y no dejando escapar nada en esa nueva labor de investigaci\u00c3\u00b3n y descubrimiento. Con los a\u00c3\u00b1os llega el l\u00c3\u00b3gico abandono de una afici\u00c3\u00b3n que para la mayor\u00c3\u00ada se convertir\u00c3\u00a1 en sin\u00c3\u00b3nimo y recuerdo de juventud, pero para algunos afortunados la m\u00c3\u00basica ser\u00c3\u00a1 compa\u00c3\u00b1era viaje a lo largo de los d\u00c3\u00adas.<\/p>\n
Toda relaci\u00c3\u00b3n cambia y madura de maneras muy diversas, y lo l\u00c3\u00b3gico es que al cabo de los a\u00c3\u00b1os nos abandone esa excitaci\u00c3\u00b3n inicial que, a\u00c3\u00b1os atr\u00c3\u00a1s, sent\u00c3\u00b3 las bases de nuestros gustos. Pasando a importar m\u00c3\u00a1s un buen conocimiento de lo que se escucha a que \u00c3\u00a9ste sea vasto e ilimitado. Consecuencia l\u00c3\u00b3gica resulta encontrar que al cabo de un tiempo nosotros mismos nos negamos la posibilidad de investigar en ciertos lugares at\u00c3\u00adpicos y lejanos. As\u00c3\u00ad, el Pop normalmente proviene de lugares tan comunes como U.K., Am\u00c3\u00a9rica y quiz\u00c3\u00a1s Jap\u00c3\u00b3n, esa anomal\u00c3\u00ada que ya hace tiempo dej\u00c3\u00b3 de serlo. Pero esto no es as\u00c3\u00ad, hace a\u00c3\u00b1os Acid House Kings<\/a> publicaban su Play Pop <\/em>Ep en Marsh-Marigold<\/a>, y ahora ese pa\u00c3\u00ads es una de las mayores fuentes de satisfacci\u00c3\u00b3n para el seguidor del Pop (Indie), las distancias ya no son las de anta\u00c3\u00b1o y pueden aparecer buenos grupos en los lugares m\u00c3\u00a1s insospechados.<\/p>\n Esta semana gracias a la amabilidad de Fruit Records<\/a> he descubierto a Serenaide<\/strong><\/a>, y como AHK creo que es el primer grupo de su pa\u00c3\u00ads, en este caso el peque\u00c3\u00b1o Singapur, que llega hasta nosotros. No s\u00c3\u00a9 si este ser\u00c3\u00a1 un primer paso que nos lleve en un futuro a descubrir un nutrido grupo de artistas provenientes de aquel punto del globo terr\u00c3\u00a1queo, pero en todo caso se trata de una muestra y evidencia de que jam\u00c3\u00a1s hay que desestimar la posibilidad de encontrar buena m\u00c3\u00basica en cualquier parte ya que este mundo hace tiempo que se nos qued\u00c3\u00b3 peque\u00c3\u00b1o.<\/p>\n The Other End of the Receiver <\/strong><\/em>supone el debut discogr\u00c3\u00a1fico de Serenaide, cuarteto asi\u00c3\u00a1tico que en un primera escucha podr\u00c3\u00ada pasar por tratarse de un brillante ejercicio revisionista del Pop independiente brit\u00c3\u00a1nico de la segunda mitad de los 80\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s. Es un lastre con el que la banda deber\u00c3\u00a1 luchar para tratar de desprenderse de tan pesada carga en futuras publicaciones. Y es que lo f\u00c3\u00a1cil para el cr\u00c3\u00adtico de la banda ser\u00c3\u00ada cargar contra un excelente tema como The Hands of the Doctor<\/em>, notable pieza que queda completamente desvirtuada por culpa de una voz que anula los m\u00c3\u00a9ritos del tema al querer emular de modo descarado la forma de cantar de Morrissey<\/a>. Otras similitudes no son tan descaradas ni gravosas para el grupo, como las que se desprenden de The Sweetest<\/em>, que r\u00c3\u00a1pidamente nos trae a la memoria a The Morrisons o The Desert Wolves<\/a>, que bien pudieran haber interpretado el tema.<\/p>\n Despu\u00c3\u00a9s de esas dos primeras piezas del disco nos queda claro que el punto de partida del grupo se sit\u00c3\u00baa en la parte elegante del C-86, pero todo queda ah\u00c3\u00ad, en unas bases que no deben anular el estupendo debut de Serenaide. Todo grupo es deudor de sus influencias, as\u00c3\u00ad que no veo problema en que en un principio estas sean obvias cuando dan resultados tan v\u00c3\u00a1lidos como Furry Animal Fury <\/em>en los que nos parece estar escuchando a Jarvis Cocker al frente de unos Pulp<\/a> en estado de gracia.<\/p>\n Pero tambi\u00c3\u00a9n encontramos, y de ah\u00c3\u00ad la esperanza en el futuro, grandes canciones que consiguen desprenderse de influencias y dan lugar a un estilo m\u00c3\u00a1s personal con resultados como The Girl from Katong<\/em>, hit que nadie debiera de perderse, con la estructura m\u00c3\u00a1s compleja del album. Lonely Bedroom Encounters <\/em>no le va a la zaga, elevando el tono emocional del disco y dando paso a una segunda parte del disco que mantiene el nivel con preciosidades como Midnight<\/em> o Would You LikeTo Hear It Too?<\/em>. Y es que al cabo de varias escuchas de The Other End of the Receiver llegamos a la conclusi\u00c3\u00b3n de que si el grupo hubiera decidido alterar el orden de los temas en el disco, situando las dos primeras canciones en otro lugar, muchos de los prejuicios que perjudican al disco desaparecer\u00c3\u00adan mostr\u00c3\u00a1ndose ante nosotros un disco mucho m\u00c3\u00a1s personal de lo que en un principio parece.<\/p>\n En conclusi\u00c3\u00b3n, un muy recomendable punto de partida para Serenaide que esperemos se vea confirmado con un pronto segundo \u00c3\u00a1lbum. Satisfacci\u00c3\u00b3n asegurada para todos aquellos amantes del cl\u00c3\u00a1sico Indie Pop (o sin el Indie delante) de guitarras y bonitas melod\u00c3\u00adas. So, during the adolescence, music discovery usually turns into object of fierce membership. The appetite is insatiable in this moment, and, you think that you are able to assimilate each sound, and nothing scapes from that investigation task. In the following years we reach the natural renouncing of a liking that will become a youth memory. But, for a few lucky persons music will be a longlife friend.<\/p>\n Each relationship changes and matures in different ways, and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s natural that after years we are left by that initial excitation that last years laid our liking foundations. As a natural consequence, after years, we refuse to investigate some atypical places. Pop usually comes from such typical places as America and perhaps Japan (nowadays it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not an anomaly). Years ago, AHK<\/a> published their Play Pop Ep <\/em>with Marsh-Marigold<\/a>, and now in that country we can find one of the biggest sources of satisfaction for Indie fans. Distances are not the same that years before and we can find good groups in unsuspected places. The Other End of the Receiver <\/em>is the record debut of the Asiatic quartet Serenaide. In the first listening we could think that It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a brilliant revisionist exercise about Indie British Pop in the second half of 80\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s. The group must try to shake off this heavy load in future publications, because, It would be easy to charge against a brilliant theme as The hands of the Doctor<\/em>, song which is gone off by a voice which anullifies the theme merit because it imitates Morrissey<\/a> singing. Other resemblances are not so evident, as in The Sweetest<\/em>, theme which reminds us of The Morrisons or The Desert Wolves<\/a>, who could have performed the theme.<\/p>\n After these two first record songs, the starting point of Serenaide is the tasteful part of C-86, but their bases must not anullify the great debut of Serenaide. Each group is indebeted to their influences, so, I think the fact that these influences are evident in the beginning is not a problem because we have a great result as Furry Animal Fury<\/em>, It seems that we are listening to Jarvis Cocker with the best Pulp<\/a>.<\/p>\n But we also find (and that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a great hope for the future) great songs which get shake off influences and give rise a personal way with results so goods as The Girl from Katong<\/em>, hit that nobody should miss, with the most complex structure in the album , whereas Lonely Bedroom Encounters<\/em> raises the emotinal record tone and gives raise a second part that maintains the level with so beautiful themes as Midnight<\/em> or Would You Like to Hear it too?.<\/em><\/p>\n After several listenings to The Other End of the Receiver we reach the conclusion that if the group had decided to change the themes order (and the two first songs were located another place) many prejudices which damage the record would disappear, and we would discover a much more personal record.<\/p>\n To sum up, It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a very recommendable starting point for Serenaide, and I hope it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s confirmed by the second album. Satisfaction is assured for everyone who loves classic Indie Pop with guitars and beatiful melodies. \nThis week, thanks to Fruit Records <\/a>courtesy, I have discovered Serenaide<\/strong><\/a> and, as AHK, I think they are the first group we can discover from a small place as Singapore. I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know if it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a first step towards discovering a big group of artists who come from that point in the globe, but, anyway, They evidence that we must never look down on the possibility of finding good music everywhere.<\/p>\n
